The Challenge
What Matrix Was Facing
Matrix's ERP-integrated key and asset management module had grown organically over eight years, resulting in an IA of 140+ navigation nodes that users described as a maze. A full heuristic evaluation and card-sorting study with 80 administrative staff confirmed that the system's mental model bore no resemblance to actual asset custody workflows.
The Solution
What We Built
We audited the full navigation tree, ran participatory design workshops with cross-functional user groups, and rebuilt the IA around three primary user journeys: issue, retrieve, audit. A new design system with standardised data-entry patterns replaced the legacy patchwork of form styles, reducing input errors through consistent affordances and inline validation.

Results
Measurable Outcomes
✓Navigation-related errors reduced by 58% following the IA restructure
✓New staff training time cut from 3 days to half a day
✓Audit report generation time improved by 66%
